A blimp just beamed Japan cell service from 10 miles up

A blimp just beamed Japan cell service from 10 miles up. Not a joke, not a concept render, an unmanned Sceye airship flew from New Mexico to Japan and back, handing ordinary phones a signal from the stratosphere. That's not a hover. That's a commute. SoftBank, one of Japan's big three carriers, is already eyeing commercial service by 2027. Still a test, sure, and Spoot loves that disclaimer because it keeps the hype from inflating faster than the blimp itself. But the razor clam here is the distance, transoceanic, unmanned, at an altitude where the weather doesn't care about your launch window. If this works at scale, it rewrites the geography of mobile coverage. No towers. No trenches. Just a quiet thing drifting above Japan, handing down bars.
