Nothing Ear 1 dips to a whisper while October deals circle the drain

The Nothing Ear 1 headphones at $189 is the most interesting thing in this deal roundup, and it's not because of the price. It's because those headphones are a museum piece from a company that already moved on, and the discount tells you more about Nothing's trajectory than any press release ever could.

October's Prime Big Deals Days turned the audio aisle into a fire sale, and Nothing's first over-ear headphones got swept into the chaos. Prime Day's cheap seat: six things under $25 that don't suck reminded us you can find value anywhere, but the Ear 1 at $189 isn't just value, it's a relic. These were the debut over-ears from a company that built its entire identity on transparency, both literal and philosophical. Retro transparent design, active noise cancellation, spatial audio with head tracking, plush ear pads, a paddle button. That's the spec sheet. But look closer at the razor clam: Nothing itself is selling them for $199, while Amazon undercuts by another ten bucks. The company that made them is already offering a discount on its own site. That's not clearance. That's a company saying, "We're done with this chapter."

Meanwhile, Amazon's October sale nibbles Apple prices without asking if you really need a new iPad and the AirPods Pro 3 drop to $179, which is a louder story for most shoppers. The Nothing Ear 1 is a quieter one, and Spoot always follows the quiet ones. Because here's the thing: Nothing has moved on to the Ear 3 earbuds at $99, and the Ear 3A at $79. Those are current. Those are the products Nothing wants you to buy. The Ear 1 headphones are the company's awkward first draft, and the discount is the asterisk at the bottom of the page that nobody reads. It says: these are good, but they're not the future.

What does this mean for you? If you want the Nothing story in your hands, the Ear 1 at $189 is a fair price for a decent pair of over-ears with a cool look. But don't buy them thinking you're getting the company's best work. You're getting the artifact. The real question is whether Nothing will ever make another pair of over-ears, or if the Ear 1 remains a lonely monument to ambition that didn't quite land. The discount doesn't answer that. It just whispers it.
