Visiting Munich for a week this summer – looking for recommendations (history, culture, food, architecture)
Hi r/travel! I’ll be spending a full week in Munich this summer (June 5-12) and I want to make the most of it. I’ve done some research, but honestly nothing beats hearing from people who know the city well. So I’d love your recommendations.
A bit about what I’m interested in:
• History and historical sites. I love learning about the past through the places that shaped it, whether that’s medieval, WWII-era, or anything in between. If there are any tours or tour guides you recommend that would be great too • Immersing in local culture. I want to experience Munich the way people actually live it, not just the tourist surface • Local food and drink. Proper Bavarian cuisine, neighbourhood spots, markets, anything authentic. I love to cook too and wouldn’t be opposed to doing a cooking class if you have any to recommend. • Museums and arts. I am open to everything from fine art to history to science to niche local collections. I specifically love theatre and plays. • Architecture – beautiful buildings, interesting urban spaces, hidden gems • Nice walks and natural scenery; parks, rivers, quieter neighbourhoods worth wandering • Experiences that are specific to Munich, Bavaria, or Germany. Anything I genuinely couldn’t do or feel anywhere else What I’m less interested in:
• Clubs and nightlife • All-inclusive or overly touristy hotel experiences I have a lot of free time and I’m pretty flexible, so I’m open to things that take half a day or just an hour. Day trips from the city are also welcome if you think something nearby is worth it.
Thank you!
