What breed could she be? This is our mystery girl, her name is Moon. She turned up one day about 18 months ago and decided to add herself to our little flock. Marched up and down until we let her in!

We have no idea how old she is of course (but I'm certain she's older than our other 2 year old hens), or her type. She's a big girl, bigger bodied than our Warren, Speckled Maran and hybrid Black Rock, but with similar markings to a black rock, albeit less ginger. She's shiny black all over with a few golden ginger feathers around her head, and has slightly tufty legs/feet. She lays smallish dark brown and often speckled eggs. I'd just be interested to know her breeding because I'm always surprised by what a beefcake she is when I pick her up 😆

I'm also wondering if her comb has been damaged by cold at some point in her past as it has a dark edge whereas our other hens have fully red and healthy looking combs.

She doesn't appear to have come from any of our neighbours or neighbouring farms, we live rural and checked around for a long time after she appeared at our place.

Whatever she is, she's part of the girl gang for life, we don't do strays around here! ❤️
