Epilator vs waxing?

I have been using an epilator for a year and it worked great, reduced pigmentation, thinner hair but it broke now I'm wondering if I should invest in an epilator again or start waxing, if waxing should I try soft wax or hard wax? because I'm not turning to razors again and getting it done outside is expensive since I'm a broke student. Epilating was very easy for me and became less painful when I did it regularly but I'm all up for trying waxing..
