Best way to find photographers to work with on editorial style photo projects in Japan?

I'll be in Japan for a year, but do not know the first thing about the photography scene there. I have some ideas for shoots that I want to do, but I want to be able to efficiently find a photographer that would match the style of the of shoots I want to achieve.

Is there some kind of message board for photographers? Or would the best way be to go to art/photography exhibitions and try and network that way?
