Recommendations for handling abnormally large files. >5 gb.

I'm a scientist working with an excel sheet given to me by a 3rd party. I have ten total files and just one of these files contains 5.8gb worth of output and I'm trying to find a way to open it without stalling out Excel. I have tried to use the Data tab and Get data hoping it would allow me to filter out some of the lesser needed values, and bring it back into limits, but it has been 'establishing a connection' to the file for about 30 minutes and errored out saying it cannot find the file. Any suggestions on how to open these files?
