Counting Numbered Steps ie (1., 2., 3., ...) For a Column
This might be a little odd, I am a graduate student tasked with counting the number of steps a participant was able to recall but unfortunately the data was collect in an odd fashion. The google sheet outputs all selected answers into a single cell so for example:
Child says Belly Breathing or breathing, Say, "when would you use Belly Breathing?", Child says, "when you have heavy feelings" or equivalent., Say, "what is the first thing you do to Belly Breathe?", 1. Child gestures by placing hands on belly., Say, "What is the second thing you do when you belly breathe?", 2. Child says "take a deep breath and fill belly with air." Key words breath, belly, air, Say, "what is the third step when you belly breathe?", 3. Child says "hold breath for 5 seconds". Main idea is holding breath., 3. Child gestures hold breath for 5 seconds.
What I need to do is count the number of steps they were able to recall. So specifically for this example I would count 1., 2., 3., so the correct answer would be 3. My first question is how to I get either google sheets or excel to count specifically the 1. (number with a period behind it) and no other numbers that appear in the steps. The second and less important question is can I make it have unique options, so if both versions of 3. were selected (as seen above) can I have that only count as one rather than two. Sorry if this is confusing I will clarify any more the best that I can. Thank you
