Nike and LEGO's space sneakers: a yellow Air Max Dn for kids

The best thing about Nike and LEGO's new space-themed kids' collection isn't the shoes. It's that a full-zip fleece hoodie in the lineup carries a basketball minifigure patch that changes as you move. That's the detail worth burrowing into, because it's the one piece here that couldn't exist without the collaboration actually meaning something. The rest of it is a bright yellow Air Max Dn story we've been watching since August 2025, now extended toward the holidays with two sneakers for small feet: the Air Force 1 Low LV8, wearing a sketched-stitch spacesuit upper with a LEGO space Swoosh and minifigs, and the S.T. Dynamite, which goes full ice planet with a color-shifting finish and a glittering outsole. Kids sizes 10.5C to 7Y. North America gets them November 24, everywhere else November 2.

Here's our plain take: this is a smart kids' collection dressed up as a space mission, and the clothing is doing more honest work than the footwear. Ripstop trousers, a graphic tee, Dri-FIT shorts with a lunar landscape print, and that moving minifig patch read like pieces a kid would actually reach for. The shoes, meanwhile, are cosplay for the playground, which is fine. The Air Force 1's spacesuit styling is the kind of constructed, playful stitching that lands well at this scale, and the S.T. Dynamite's multidirectional treads, bouncy foam and lightweight upper suggest someone remembered these are for running around, not display. Compare that to the slow-burn theatricality of Corteiz and Nike trade secrets while the Shox R419 waits for its 2026 curtain, where the wait is the whole point. This collection ships now. That counts for something.

The timing is the sharp bit. Nike dropped a Jordan 30th-anniversary Space Jam collection within a month of this reveal, and now LEGO arrives with its own outer-space basketball pitch. Two space stories, one holiday window. Parents will feel that collision in their wallets before kids feel it in their treads.

Our specific takeaway: if you're buying for a basketball-loving kid this season, the apparel is the safer bet and the S.T. Dynamite is the more interesting shoe, because a color-shifting finish and glitter outsole at least commit to the bit. Watch the November 24 North America date, and watch whether that minifig patch survives a real winter of wear. A moving patch is a lovely idea. A moving patch that still moves in February is a design.
